An overthinking journal for when the same thought keeps coming back
An overthinking journal is a simple idea: when a thought keeps looping, you write it down so it has somewhere to go. The trouble is that a page doesn’t answer. You write the conversation you keep replaying, and an hour later you’re replaying it again, now with notes.
Diary BFF is a private night diary that writes back. You put the loop on the page. When you want to, you ask, and your diary BFF says one short thing back. Then it leaves you alone.
How it works on a loud night
You open the app and you’re on tonight’s page. There are no prompts to answer first and no sign-up before you start. Write the long, messy version, or one line. If typing feels like too much, hold to record and it turns into text.
Your diary BFF stays quiet until you ask. When you do, it answers in a few sentences, with at most one question. It doesn’t give advice unless you ask for it, and it doesn’t repeat back what you just said.
The replies aren’t written by a person. Your diary BFF is an AI that lives in your diary.
What changes when it’s on the page
A thought that only lives in your head gets to be as big as it wants. On the page, it has edges. You can see that it’s the same three sentences you’ve been saying to yourself since dinner.
A reply adds one more thing: a different angle, in different words. Sometimes that’s all it takes to notice the loop is a loop.
It remembers, with the date
Overthinking often comes back to the same few things. Your diary BFF remembers what you wrote, with the date, so a reply can point back to the night you first wrote about it.
Once a week, on Sundays, your diary BFF writes you a letter about your week: what kept coming up, and what changed.
Private enough to write the real version
- It has its own PIN, separate from your phone’s passcode, with no Face ID shortcut.
- Your entries are not used to train AI.
- Nothing is shared with other users. There’s no feed.
What it isn’t
Diary BFF isn’t a coach and it doesn’t put labels on you. It’s a diary first, one that writes back when you ask. It isn’t a replacement for talking to someone you trust.
Skip a night, and it won’t bring it up.
