Diary BFF

A vent journal app for the things you can’t say out loud

Some days you don’t want to reflect. You don’t want a prompt, a gratitude list or a lesson. You want to say the thing — the meeting, the comment, the group chat, the person who did the exact thing again — in exactly the words you’d never use out loud.

That’s what a vent journal app is for. Diary BFF is built so you can get it all out, and then stop.

Venting needs a page with no rules

Venting is messy writing. Run-on sentences, caps, the same complaint four times. A vent journal app shouldn’t ask you to tidy that up.

In Diary BFF, you open the app and you’re on tonight’s page. No mood picker, no tags, no template, no sign-up first. You start typing, and nothing interrupts you. Your diary BFF stays quiet while you write — no suggestions popping up halfway through a rant.

Somewhere it can’t be read

You vent honestly only if you know it won’t be read over your shoulder. Diary BFF opens with its own PIN, separate from your phone’s passcode, with no Face ID shortcut. Someone can be holding your unlocked phone and still not open it. Notifications never show what you wrote, because they can appear on a lock screen.

Your entries are not used to train AI.

When you want someone to hear it

Sometimes writing it down is enough. Sometimes you want someone to hear it.

When you ask, your diary BFF reads what you wrote and says one thing back: a few sentences, at most one question. It doesn’t repeat back what you just said, it doesn’t lecture, and it doesn’t hand you a five-step plan unless you ask for one. It won’t put labels on you, either. It’s closer to a friend who lets you finish, then says the one thing that makes you feel less alone with it.

If you want to keep going, you can talk it through with your diary BFF. Everything — what you wrote, the chat and the replies — stays on one page for that night.

The same thing, again

If you’re venting about the same person for the third Tuesday in a row, that’s worth knowing. Your diary BFF remembers what you wrote, with the date. When it brings up an earlier night, it tells you which one. On Sundays, your diary BFF writes you a letter about your week, so you can see what kept coming up.

Then close it

The point of venting is to get it out of your head so you can stop carrying it. A vent journal app should let you put the phone down. Diary BFF doesn’t send reminders to write, and if you skip a night, it won’t bring it up.
