Diary BFF

A journal prompts app for the nights the page stays blank

Some nights you open your journal and nothing comes. You know something is in there, you just don’t know where to start. That’s what a journal prompts app is for: a question to get the first line out.

Diary BFF is a diary first, with a few prompts for exactly those nights. Not a library of hundreds. Just enough to get you writing.

Three small sets, three questions each

Tap Try a few questions and you’ll see three sets:

  • Something you can’t say out loud. You don’t have to name it. The last question asks for one sentence you haven’t said yet.
  • When your brain won’t switch off. It starts with “What’s the loudest thing in your head right now?” and ends with writing the smallest next step, then leaving it there for tonight.
  • A small good thing today. One small good thing, what it looked or sounded like, and a thank-you you’ll probably never send.

The question sits at the top of the page. What you write underneath is yours. Tap Next question when you’re ready, or stop after one.

Pin the one that fits

If one set feels right, tap Start every night here. From then on, a blank page opens on that set’s first question, until you tap Stop starting here.

After the prompt, your own words

Prompts are a way in, not the point. Once you’re writing, your diary BFF stays quiet until you ask. When you ask, it answers in a few sentences, with at most one question, right under your words. It doesn’t hand you a list of advice.

Your diary BFF remembers what you wrote, with the date. So when something comes up again, a reply can point back to the night you first wrote about it.

The replies aren’t written by a person. Your diary BFF is an AI that lives in your diary.

Private by design

  • It has its own PIN, separate from your phone’s passcode, with no Face ID shortcut. Someone holding your unlocked phone still can’t open it.
  • Your entries are not used to train AI.
  • There’s no feed, and no sign-up before you start.

Who it’s for

  • People who want to journal at night but freeze at a blank page.
  • People who tried big prompt libraries and spent more time picking a question than writing.
  • Anyone who wants one good question, then quiet.
