Diary BFF

A diary app with no sign-up

You open a new diary app at 11pm because something’s on your mind. Before you can type a word, it wants you to sign up. A form, a password, a confirmation step. By the time you’re in, the thought has gone.

If you searched for a diary app with no account, that’s probably why. Diary BFF is built so the first thing you do is write.

What “no account” means in Diary BFF

There is no sign-up. No form to fill in, no password to make up, nothing to confirm. You open the app, set a PIN, and you’re on tonight’s page.

To be exact about it: behind the scenes, the app creates an anonymous ID so your diary has somewhere to live and can be backed up. You never see a sign-up form for it. That’s why we say “no sign-up” rather than “no account” — it’s the more honest way to put it.

Why skip the sign-up

Nothing to decide before you start

A diary is easiest to start on the night you need it, and that night is rarely a good time to make an account. With no sign-up, there are no forms to fill in and nothing to go back and confirm. You start typing.

A lock instead of a login

Without a login, the lock is a PIN of its own — separate from your phone’s passcode, with no Face ID shortcut. Someone can be holding your unlocked phone and still not open your diary.

The trade-off, stated plainly

No sign-up also means there’s no password-reset link to send. Here’s what that changes:

  • If you forget your PIN, you can start a reset with your phone’s own device authentication. For your privacy, the new PIN only unlocks after a 10-day wait, so someone who knows your phone passcode can’t use it to open your diary today. Your entries stay intact while you wait.
  • Keep a copy of your own. You can export your diary any time — every entry, with your writing, the timestamps and the replies — and the backup file can have its own lock. An export is the copy that’s always in your hands.

We think that trade is worth it for a diary. But it’s a real trade, and it’s better to know before you start.

What you get without signing up

Diary BFF is a night diary with someone in it. You write whatever your head is doing — the conversation you keep replaying, the message you didn’t send, tomorrow’s list that keeps rewriting itself.

When you ask, your diary BFF reads it and says one thing back: a few sentences, at most one question, no lists and no lectures. It remembers what you wrote, with the date. On Sundays, it writes you a letter about your week.

  • Notifications never show what you wrote, because they can appear on a lock screen.
  • Your entries are not used to train AI.
  • Skip a night, and it won’t bring it up.
